7 Killer iphone Apps for Doctors

I love this post by Joshua Schwimmer, M.D. where he lists his predictions for iphone applications that will be developed and rolled out in the future. While we wait for those, I thought I would give a sampling of killer apps available in the present:
1. Epocrates (free)
Comb through a database of 3,300 drugs.
Check dosing, adverse reactions, interactions, pharmacology, and pricing.
Killer feature: "Pill ID" to identify a drug by its appearance and/or imprint code.
2. MedCalc (free)
Access medical formulas and scores.
Search for equations by name or keywords.
Retrieve recently used or favorite equations.
3. Netter's Anatomy ($39.99)
Take advantage of the iphone's superior graphics to review these beautiful anatomical illustrations from the Atlas of Human Anatomy.
Locate any structure by using the index.
Explore detailed illustrations with the toggle pin feature.
Bookmark favorites.
4. ICD-9 Lite (free) and ICD-9 PCP (free)
ICD-9 Lite contains all 13,677 ICD-9 codes.
ICD-9 PCP limits codes to those commonly used by primary care physicians (roughly 2,000).
Quick retrieval by disease classification.
5. Pubsearch ($.99) PubsearchPlus ($2.99)
Access the PubMed database and search for the millions of scientific articles.
Read full text articles with PubSearchPlus.
6. Eponyms (free for students)
Find short descriptions of more than 1600 common eponyms.
Andrew J. Yee still maintains the database.
7. ReachMD CME (free)
Earn CME credits with this fully accredited tool.
Search for programs by keywords.
Listen to the CME program on your iphone, then take the exam on the iphone, too.
While this list is by no means exhaustive, it gives you a starting point for browsing in the itunes iPhone App Store.
As always, if I have overlooked an app that you think is killer - please tell us about it in the comments!

I love Epocrates, but as an ER doc the one app I am waiting for is PEPID. When it comes out my PDA can go in a drawer and gather dust!
The PEPID website claims the iPhone version will come out this month. I sure hope so!

Hi,
There are a lot of wallpaper sites around for iPhone, but none actually give you a fun and easy way to create one for yourself. DoiPhone blog just came across Pikkoo: A community for mobile screensavers and wallpapers 2.o; and we are stunned- they let you find and create kick-ass wallpapers without needing to draw anything or present any artistic effort, for free!

It is absolutely amazing at what applications you can get for the Iphones.
I just hope they are accurate!
I have found many of the apps not accurate at all.
Apart from that very good post Joshua!

Awesome list of apps. With the new faster processor in the 3GS iPhone, I'm sure we'll see a lot more apps come out and a lot more powerful. The first one listed is useful for anyone, not just MDs.
Thanks for sharing!
